Swami Dayanand Saraswati is a pioneer among the great saints who opposed the superstitions, orthodoxies prevailing in the country, various types of fetters and all inhuman practices. Indian public will forever be indebted to Swamiji for his significant contribution to recognizing Hindi as the national language and for uplifting Hinduism and awakening its self-respect.

Swami Dayanand Saraswati was born in 1824 AD at a place called Tankra in the Maurvi region of Gujarat state. Swami Ji’s childhood name was the original Shankar. Your father was considered a follower and guardian of Sanatan Dharma. Swamiji received his early education in Sanskrit. Gradually, he gained full authority over the Sanskrit subject. From childhood, there was a glimpse of his divine and wonderful form in his activities.

Since childhood, Swamiji received such an environment in which the whole country was clinging to the shackles of subjugation. Then India was under foreign rule. Inhuman behavior towards his countrymen started agitating his mind. Apart from foreign slavery, the atmosphere of many kinds of evil practices and superstitions, etc. shook their conscience.

At the age of 21, Swami Ji abandoned his home and family and took recluse. He met many types of yogis, sages, saints, and mahatmas on his cultivation path to gain complete knowledge through yogic practice and rigorous penance, but his curiosity did not end.

They roamed pilgrimage sites and spiritual areas like Haridwar, Kedarnath, Badrinath, etc. It was during the visit that he met his great yogi and saint Virjanandji in Mathura. He was deeply impressed by his scholarship and accepted him as his mentor.

He studied all the Vedas and Upanishads under the direction of Swami Virjanandji for almost 35 years. After completing their education, they started cruising with the aim of removing ignorance spread in the country as per the orders of the Guru. During his tour of the country, he founded the ‘Arya Samaj’.

He created the scripture ‘Satyarth Prakash’ to eradicate ignorance, orthodoxy, and superstition from the society. ‘Vedang Prakash’, ‘Rigveda Bhumika’ and ‘Behavana Bhanu’ are other excellent texts of Swamiji. The study of his texts shows that he had a strong attachment to the culture of ancient India.

Swami Ji tried to socialize with the three powers of mind, words, and deeds. Through his writings and teachings, he tried to free the Indian public from mental slavery. His voice was so effective that it directly affected the listener’s inner voice. The love of the country and the national sentiment was filled with the code.

His efforts in the direction of social upliftment are unforgettable. He openly opposed the evils like child marriage in society. According to him, child marriage is one of the root causes of powerlessness. Apart from this, he was also a supporter of widow-marriage.

Swami Dayanand Saraswati ji had a special attachment with his mother tongue, Hindi. At that time, he tried his best to recognize Hindi as the national language. Apart from Hindi, Vedic religion and Sanskrit language also got a special place in society due to their efforts.

Dayanand University and Universities have made a special contribution to the propagation of Vedic religion and Hindi language. He was the founder of ‘Arya Samaj’ whose thousands of branches are spread even today in the country and abroad and are contributing significantly in the development of Indian culture and civilization.

Swami Dayanand Saraswati was an era man. His entire life was based on asceticism and spiritual practice. He tried throughout his life to uplift Vedic religion and culture. His efforts to free the Indian public from foreign slavery will always be remembered. The nation will never forget his efforts to give recognition and respect to the Hindi language.

Swami Ji passed away at the age of 62. He was given poison by deceit, but this great soul is forgiven the person who poisoned him from the heart.
