Hiranyakashyap considered himself a god. He had a son named Prahlada who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashyap was opposed to Lord Vishnu. When he stopped Prahlada from worship vishnu and when Prahlada refused his words, Hiranyakashyap tried to kill his own son. In this Hiranyakashyap asked help from his sister Holika. Since Holika had got the power of not burning in the fir.To help her brother, Holika said yes. After that Holika sat in the fire with Prahlad but the irony is that holika burned in fire while prahlad was not at all hurt coz of lord vishnus’ power.
