Maharana Pratap was the king of the Sisodia Rajput dynasty in Mewar of Udaipur. He had defeated the Mughals many times in the war, hence Maharana Pratap Singh is considered immortal for his bravery and determination. It was a king who never accepted the accepted the rule of Mughal Emperor Akbar.

Maharana Pratap History

Maharana Pratap Singh was born on 9 May 1540 in Kumbhalgarh, Rajasthan. His father’s name was Maharana Udai Singh and mother’s name was Maharani Jayavanta Bai, daughter of Saungs Akhairaj of Pali. Kika was the childhood name of Maharana Pratap.

Mughal emperor Akbar wanted to make Maharana Pratap his partner that is why Akbar sent Rajputs to convince Maharana Pratap but Maharana Pratap refused Akbar’s proposal. As a result, the historical war of Haldighati was witnessed.

Akbar and Maharana Pratap

The battle of Haldighati was fought between Akbar and Maharana Pratap on 18 June 1516. This war was terrible and destructive like the war of Mahabharata. Neither Akbar nor Maharana Pratap could win this war. Because the Mughals had more military power and Maharana Pratap did not lack combative power.

Maharana Pratap had only 20,000 soldiers in the battle of Haldighati and Akbar had eighty-five thousand soldiers. Still Maharana Pratap did not give up and kept on fighting.

Maharana Pratap’s armor was 72 kg and the spear was 81 kg. His spear, armor, shield and sword weighed 208 kilograms in total. After the death of Maharana Udai Singh, all the nobles of Mewar gathered and put Maharana Pratap Singh on the throne.

The Battle of Diwar in 1582 is considered an important war in the history of Rajasthan as Maharana Pratap’s lost kingdom was recaptured in this war and a very long struggle took place in the form of war between Maharana Pratap Singh and the Mughals.
