Swami Dayanand Saraswati is a pioneer among the great saints who opposed the superstitions, orthodoxies prevailing in the country, various types of fetters and all inhuman practices. Swami Dayanand Saraswati was born in 1824 AD at a place called Tankra in the Maurvi region of Gujarat state. Swami Ji’s childhood name was the original Shankar. Your father was considered a follower and guardian of Sanatan Dharma. Swamiji received his early education in Sanskrit. Gradually, he gained full authority over the Sanskrit subject. At the age of 21, Swami Ji abandoned his home and family and took recluse. He met many types of yogis, sages, saints, and mahatmas on his cultivation path to gain complete knowledge through yogic practice and rigorous penance, but his curiosity did not end.
They roamed pilgrimage sites and spiritual areas like Haridwar, Kedarnath, Badrinath, etc. It was during the visit that he met his great yogi and saint Virjanandji in Mathura. He was deeply impressed by his scholarship and accepted him as his mentor.
He studied all the Vedas and Upanishads under the direction of Swami Virjanandji for almost 35 years. After completing their education, they started cruising with the aim of removing ignorance spread in the country as per the orders of the Guru. During his tour of the country, he founded the ‘Arya Samaj’.
He created the scripture ‘Satyarth Prakash’ to eradicate ignorance, orthodoxy, and superstition from the society. ‘Vedang Prakash’, ‘Rigveda Bhumika’ and ‘Behavana Bhanu’ are other excellent texts of Swamiji. The study of his texts shows that he had a strong attachment to the culture of ancient India.
Swami Ji tried to socialize with the three powers of mind, words, and deeds. Through his writings and teachings, he tried to free the Indian public from mental slavery. His voice was so effective that it directly affected the listener’s inner voice. The love of the country and the national sentiment was filled with the code.
His efforts in the direction of social upliftment are unforgettable. He openly opposed the evils like child marriage in society. According to him, child marriage is one of the root causes of powerlessness. Apart from this, he was also a supporter of widow-marriage.
