Ramnavami is a very religious and traditional Hindu festival. Hindu people celebrate this festival with great joy and gaiety all over India. This festival is celebrated in the happy birthday of Rama Dasaratha of Ayodhya and Shri Ram, son of Rani Kaushalya.
Shri Rama is considered to be the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to the Hindu calendar, Ramnavami day every year is considered as the 9th day of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month, hence this day is also known as Chaitra month Shukla Paksha Navami.
People make idols of Lord Shri Rama in their homes and sit in front of them and wish for the happiness and peace of their family and life. These days the Ram temples are decorated in a very beautiful way.
The festival of Ramnavami is celebrated for 9 days. In these 9 days, all Hindu devotees celebrating Ramnavami recite the Ramcharitmanas and also perform puja aarti in temples and homes with religious hymns, kirtans, and devotional songs. Most devotees observe the first and last day of the 9 days of Ramnavami for the entire day.
South Indian people celebrate the day of Ramnavami as the wedding anniversary of Lord Sri Rama and Mother Sita. On this day all South Indian temples are illuminated with flowers and lights.

Ramayana is a great story of Hinduism. This story is the story of King Dasaratha of Ayodhya and his son Ram.
In Treta Yuga there was a great king of Ayodhya named Dasaratha, he had 3 wives – Kaushalya, Sumitra, and Kaikeyi. He had no child, so he paved the way for child happiness with sage Vasistha.
The sage Vashistha told him the way to have a son kameshti yajna for getting children. After that King Dasaratha invited Maharishi Rishyasringa to perform the yajna. After the yagna, Yagneshwar gave him a bowl filled with kheer and asked Dasaratha to feed his wives.
With his blessings, on the day of Navami, Mother Kausalya gave birth to Rama, Kaikeyi, Bharata, and Sumitra gave birth to two sons Lakshmana and Shatrugana. Kaushalya’s son Sri Rama was the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu who was born on earth to end unrighteousness.
He removed unrighteousness from the earth and killed the demon like Ravana. The people of Ayodhya were very happy with Shri Ram. From that day onwards, he started celebrating the birth anniversary of Shri Ram Prabhu in the name of Ram Navami with great fanfare.
Significance of Ram Navami Festival
The Ramnavami festival has great significance for the Hindu people. It is said that all the evil powers are removed from the life of the person who worships Ramnavami and gets divine power.
It is also said that just as Vishnu ji, in the incarnation of Shri Rama, in the earth, and he killed sins and demons in the earth, similarly the sin of life of those who fasted on Ramnavami is removed. This day is also considered a festival to purify oneself.
The worship of the festival of Ramnavami first begins by offering water to the Sun God in the morning. The Sun God is said to have been the ancestor of Lord Sri Rama. They are worshiped so that they are blessed with supreme power.
